Yakima Basin Senior Water Rights For Sale & Lease
Exclusive access for current SMID patrons - Bids due June 15th
About the Auction
Through conservation upgrades, the Selah-Moxee Irrigation District (SMID) has surplus water that is now being made available for sale and lease. SMID is offering approximately 25% of its surplus water rights to current SMID patrons through this auction, including up to 1,650 acre-feet for lease and 200 acre-feet for sale. SMID’s water rights have a priority date of January 26, 1887, are senior rights in the Yakima Basin, and are not curtailed in drought years.
The acquired water rights may be used both within and outside of SMID’s service area, through SMID’s delivery system or from surface water downstream of SMID’s Pomona diversion, or from groundwater in continuity with the Yakima River.
All bids must be submitted electronically through Western Water Market by 11:59 pm on June 15, 2022. In order for bids to be valid, a one-time non-refundable application fee of $500 must be paid to SMID within 7 working days.
This auction is currently open to existing SMID patrons only. SMID patrons are landowners within the current SMID service area whose assessments are paid and up-to-date and who has a meaningful interest of at least 10% ownership in the land where surplus water is proposed to be used. Eligible bidders may propose to use water on land not currently assessed by SMID.
